Some 3 million hectares of orchards are being harvested in Iran with an average annual production of 16.5 million metric tons. The record for pomegranate production is 100 tons in a single hectare of land while provinces of Yazd and Markazi are among the main producers of the fruit.
A 100-gram serving of pomegranate arils provides 12% of the daily value for vitamin C, 16% for vitamin K and 10% for folate.
Pomegranate seeds are a rich source of dietary fiber (20% daily value) which is entirely contained in the edible seeds. People who choose to discard the seeds forfeit nutritional benefits conveyed by the seed fiber and micronutrients.
